Abstract

Sustaining audience engagement throughout the first movement of Schubert's Piano Sonata in C Minor, D. 958, necessitates a performance that emphasizes its inherent dramatic contrasts. The performer must articulate stark dynamic shifts, clearly differentiate lyrical themes from explosive passages, and build structural tension across the movement's expansive form. A compelling narrative, guided by rhythmic integrity and deliberate pacing, is essential to unify the work's turbulent character and maintain listener attention from the introduction to the finale.
