As the digital economy continues to empower the real economy, artificial intelligence serves as a critical driving force for regional high-quality development in the process of nurturing new-quality productivity. Based on the panel data of 30 Chinese provinces from 2015 to 2024, this paper constructs a comprehensive high-quality development index to conduct empirical analysis. Taking the development level of artificial intelligence as the core variable, this paper examines the dual parallel mediating effects of talent agglomeration and industrial collaborative agglomeration and sorts out the internal transmission mechanism. The study also conducts endogeneity treatment and regional heterogeneity analysis to compare the differences in effects among the eastern, central, and western regions. On this basis, in response to the pilot policy of artificial intelligence innovation development pilot zone, this paper leverages the quasi-natural experimental characteristics of its phased implementation and adopts the event study method to conduct a parallel trend test, so as to verify the rationality of model specification. The research findings of this paper reveal the action mechanism and spatial heterogeneity law of artificial intelligence development, which can provide empirical reference for industrial layout and regional coordinated development across regions.
