Based on the theory of visual language, this paper systematically analyzes the transformation of visual language in contemporary Chinese urban-themed oil paintings from four aspects: spatial schema reconstruction, encoding and translation of urban symbol systems, subjective color and light rhetoric, and brushstroke texture and material integration. By combining the oil paintings of contemporary oil painting artists such as Liu Xiaodong, Wang Yuping, and Chao Ge, this paper explores the artistic characteristics of oil painting art in the context of local urban culture, including the realistic depiction of reality, emotional expression, and conceptual representation in urban-themed works. It also proposes effective methods for expressing humanistic emotions in urban-themed works in contemporary oil painting creation.
