During the communication activities, redundant phenomena such as repetition and modification in the source language appears commonly, which is regarded as information redundancy. This paper focuses on coping with information redundancy in English-Chinese consecutive interpreting under the guidance of the Variational Translation Theory by using the three key techniques of “deleting, editing, and altering”. Practical application demonstrates that judicious use of these strategies effectively distills core information, enhances the conciseness and logical coherence of the target language, and improves communicative efficiency. This research validates the guiding value of Variational Translation Theory in optimizing interpretation output and achieving effective cross-cultural communication.
