Based on the provincial panel data, and with science and technology innovation as the mediating variable, the study analyzes the relationship between the digital economy, science and technology innovation, and the regional business environment and the internal mechanism from both theoretical and empirical dimensions. The study finds that: the digital economy has a direct effect on the regional business environment; it can not only promote the development level of science and technology innovation but also promote the optimization of the regional business environment through the enhancement of science and technology innovation; heterogeneity analysis shows that the optimization of local business environment by digital economy is more obvious in the western and northeastern regions than in the central and eastern regions.
