Abstract

In the current era of deep integration of globalization and digital media, short film commentary videos, with their characteristics of being concise and rapid in dissemination, have gradually become an important carrier of cross-cultural communication. These short videos can serve the dual purpose of reinterpretation of film and television pieces, and also facilitate cross cultural dialogue channels that cross language divides through translation and re-creation. However, the embedding of technological empowerment, coupled with an expectation for localization, brings about the issue of "recontextualized" translation processes - while it is important to preserve the original work, there has to be consideration for the cultural cognitive schemas of audiences from varying backgrounds. At the same time, new innovations of narrative logic have arisen through the engagement of AI technology, such as first-person perspective narrative, that have not only enhanced efficiency in content production but also provoked deeper reflection regarding the subjectivity of creation and ethical limits. Despite the abundance of commentary short videos for films, complexity is created in terms of cultural decodings, and technological tools offer a double-edged effect that calls for immediate systematic inquiry from the lenses of communication studies, translation studies, and media technologies.
